CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) buses are on the road 20 hours a day.  In 2011 CATS buses travelled more than 15 million miles.  The driving forces behind the wheel getting you to your destination on time and safely is CATS team of nearly 600 Bus Operators.  So on Tuesday, March 20, say thank you to your Operator for all that they do for you every day as part of International Bus Driver Appreciation.  Let us know what you like best about your favorite bus operator by clicking here

Bus Operator Theron Barrino has driven a CATS bus for 25 years and delivered millions of customers safely to their destination.  In addition to driving, he also has assisted in training new bus operators for 13 years.  “Knowing that I am making a positive impression on the people I meet and making a difference are very rewarding aspects of my job as a bus operator,” Barrino said.  “I also enjoy the relationships that I have formed with my coworkers over the years.”

CATS prides itself on its safety record, taking home the Safest in State Award in North Carolina several years, most recently in 2011, for Bus Operations.  “This attention to safety has helped CATS dramatically decrease its accident rate, achieving a 14 percent reduction over the last year alone in preventable accidents,” said Carolyn Flower, CEO of CATS.

“This statewide recognition highlights the efforts of our Operators and the safe service they provide every day to our customers on their way to work, school, medical appointments and shopping.”
